New RuneQuest edition to be known as
RUNEQUEST: ROLEPLAYING IN GLORANTHA

The new edition of the iconic roleplaying game RuneQuest will be formally known as RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha, or 'RQG' for short, Chaosium has announced.

First published by Chaosium in 1978, over the ensuing decades the RuneQuest game has gone through a number of editions with different publishers and licensees. The new edition returns to Chaosium where it started and where, in its heyday, was second only to Dungeons & Dragons in terms of sales.

RUNEQUEST QUICKSTART FIRST NEW RQG PRODUCT

The first new RQG product is the RuneQuest Quickstart, which will be available in June for Free RPG Day and at the Chaosium website from July 1, 2017.

The Quickstart collects all the essential rules for RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha and presents them in abbreviated form.

It also includes a new adventure The Broken Tower and 5 pregen characters, ready to play.

RQG WILL NOT BE KICKSTARTED

Chaosium President Rick Meints also revealed that the new edition would not be launched with a Kickstarter.

The products scheduled for 2017 release are the RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha core rules, a Gloranthan Bestiary, and a scenarios book featuring adventures by game design legends Steve Perrin (RQ1&2), Ken Rolston (RQ3's 'rune czar', Morrowwind, Elder Scrolls), Chris Klug (DragonQuest II, James Bond 007 RPG) and the 'grand shaman of gaming' himself Greg Stafford.

RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha is scheduled for a Christmas 2017 release.

What is Ab Chaos?
(...from Ab Chaos #7, May 31 1992)

Ab - Latin "from"
Chaos - (1) Any condition or place of total disorder (modern vernacular); (2) the disordered state of unformed matter which preceded creation (since Milton, Paradise Lost); (3) the dark, empty space which preceded creation (Greek Mythology); (4) the [formerly] Californian roleplaying game company.

Ab Chaos is an informal newsletter for Chaosium fans. Through our history we have tried to serve the players and gamemasters through craft and art as well as (and sometimes at the expense of) marketing and moneymaking. We appreciate your loyalty, and offer this communication to those who are curious about us, beyond the mere "product".

It is planned to be informal and irregular. We are, after all, not the Orderium.
